Dinnerware design for a seafood restaurant

When designing dinnerware for a restaurant, the type of cuisine served often sets the tone of the table setting and determines the character of the decor. When we talk about seafood dinnerware, images that come to mind usually center around blue and beige tones (colors of the sea and sand), marine-style details and simple, elegant tableware. The challenge to create an interesting and different table presentation for a seafood venue becomes difficult when paired with casual dining – a trend that dictates a simplified, rather minimalist approach to table setups.

Luckily, at Glass Studio, creativity is our forte! Our designers achieved a refined and modern table presentation for a seafood restaurant “Driftwood” at St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay resort, using  basic tableware items and minimalist  dinnerware design.

Our designers were inspired by the restaurant’s decor that reminisces of a “fine old bleached wood boathouse”, with wooden shutters, natural colors and beautiful views of the Yalong Bay. Tabletop presentation was based on a setup with show plates and bread and butter plates.

While bread and butter plates design was very simple, based on rectangular shape with soft edges and clear glass, the show plates were the focal point of the presentation. Classic round shape of show plates was combined with a beautiful floral design, where only the outlines of the flowers are accentuated with color, leaving the background and the insides of the pattern clear.

This created a beautiful show plate, contemporary and refined, yet with a flair of nostalgia for old classic motifs. Paired with bright blue napkin rings, the show plates created perfect tabletop for a seafood dining venue.
